mooola vs Vault22: private statement imports or automatic money tracking?

Choose mooola when you want local spending insights from selected bank statements without connecting an account. Choose Vault22 when automatic transaction tracking, budgets, goals, and broader saving or investment tools matter more than keeping financial records only on your device.

The short answer

mooola is intentionally a read-and-organise tool for statement history. Vault22, formerly 22seven, is a broader connected platform spanning transaction tracking, budgets, goals, saving, investing, and financial guidance.

Choose mooola when data minimisation comes first

mooola avoids the ongoing data relationship required for automatic aggregation. You export a supported statement, select it in the app, and refresh the history only when you choose to import again.

  • No financial-account connection or banking credentials requested.
  • Supported statement parsing and imported records remain on the device.
  • Bank-specific support for selected South African PDF layouts and Capitec CSVs.
  • Transactions, categories, accounts, recurring payments, subscriptions, and monthly views without a live feed.

Choose this model only if deliberate statement refreshes are acceptable. mooola will not show a live balance or automatically retrieve a newly posted transaction.

Choose Vault22 for an automatically updated financial picture

Vault22 is the stronger fit when you want connected accounts to produce an ongoing view without exporting statements each time.

  • Read-only account and card connections with automatic categorisation.
  • Budgets, category limits, alerts, goals, and personalised spending insights.
  • Saving and investment offerings beyond expense organisation.
  • A broader view of financial progress than mooola's retrospective statement analysis.

Vault22's current tracking page says it never sees or stores banking passwords and cannot move money through its read-only tracking connections. Institution availability and the terms of separate financial products should be checked directly before signing up.

Local imports and connected aggregation require different trust

Vault22's privacy policy says its services may process financial and transactional data, identification information, device data, behavioural information, and information from service providers. It also describes cross-border transfers, automated processing, and third-party AI support for Tara. These disclosures are consistent with a broad connected financial platform.

mooola receives less financial information because its core import workflow remains on the device. Limited network activity, platform backups, optional diagnostics, feedback, and past beta-access information are documented separately in the mooola privacy policy.

The practical choice is between minimising the data flow and receiving greater automation. Encryption and read-only access are important controls, but they do not turn a connected cloud workflow into local-only storage.

Moving to mooola starts again from the bank statement

mooola validates selected original bank documents. A transaction export from another finance app is not automatically equivalent to the original bank statement and should not be assumed to work.

  1. Choose your institution in the mooola bank guides.
  2. Download the documented original statement format directly from the bank.
  3. Import it into mooola and compare the result with the source statement.
  4. Keep Vault22 until you have decided which historical and ongoing features you still need.

If automatic balances, budgets, saving products, or investments remain important, mooola may be a supplementary privacy-first spending view rather than a complete replacement.
