Mint is no longer an active budgeting app. If you are looking for a Mint alternative in South Africa, start with the job you want to replace: seeing spending across accounts, planning a budget, tracking investments or keeping a private financial record. mooola is our recommendation for the spending-record part when your bank’s original statement format is supported.
What happened to Mint?
Intuit’s Mint website now directs visitors to Credit Karma and describes transactions, spending and net-worth features there. Credit Karma’s Canadian closure notice dates the end of Mint Canada’s service to 23 March 2024.
A replacement should be evaluated on what it offers today. Do not rely on an old Mint signup tutorial, a historical price or a migration deadline that has already passed. Credit Karma is a separate service; its presence on Mint’s website does not establish support for your South African bank.
Which part of Mint do you want to replace?
| Your priority | Where mooola fits | What to check elsewhere |
|---|---|---|
| See where money went | Import supported statements and review categories across accounts | Bank-feed coverage if you need connected updates |
| Set spending limits | Custom budgets with reset periods | Envelope allocation or forecasting if that is your preferred method |
| Find recurring charges | Review recurring patterns in imported history | Verify subscriptions and cancellation directly with the provider |
| Keep records private | Offline use without an account; financial records local by default | Cloud storage, aggregation providers and sharing permissions |
| Preserve old Mint history | Start from supported original bank statements | A documented importer for a Mint export you already saved |
| Track investments and future balances | The mobile app focuses on expense records and custom spending budgets | Investment aggregation and forward-looking planning capabilities |
A fresh start with South African statements
mooola does not need your banking username, password or a permanent bank connection. It reads selected original South African PDFs and Capitec CSV layouts. Follow the guide for your bank, import a complete period and reconcile the result against the source.
Repeat imports are reconciled, and you can organise categories and review recurring payments. Optional folder imports check saved supported files when you open or return to the app. Android users can also enable Google Wallet capture for supported new purchases after setup. Neither feature logs in to your bank or retrieves missing historical records.
Financial records stay on your device unless you enable uploads or share payment details. Read what mooola stores when you create an account before choosing remote features.
Can mooola import a saved Mint export?
No generic Mint CSV importer is advertised by mooola. A file exported by Mint is not an original bank statement, even if both contain dates and amounts. Use supported bank documents for mooola and keep any Mint export as a separate archive.
If retaining a saved export inside another app is essential, check its current importer first. Simplifi’s import documentation includes a Mint-file workflow, while Monarch documents CSV history imports. File support is separate from regional, currency and bank support. Neither statement promises that a closed Mint account can still supply an export.
Choose around your accounts
Start with mooola for supported statement imports, local spending analysis and custom budgets. Check the current store price for your device; this guide does not promise Mint’s former pricing or every feature it once offered.
