For supported South African bank statements, we recommend mooola’s local expense-tracking workflow. Quicken Simplifi offers a connected Spending Plan and forecasts, but its documented bank connections and currencies are designed for the United States and Canada.

Can you use Simplifi for South African accounts?
Quicken’s subscription FAQ says Simplifi connects only to US and Canadian financial accounts and supports USD or CAD, one currency at a time. It also warns that access outside those countries can be restricted. A CSV import should not be treated as a workaround that establishes support for rand accounts.
mooola imports selected formats from banks including Absa, Capitec, FNB, Discovery Bank and Standard Bank. The supported bank and format list describes the scope. Support for a bank does not mean every account type or statement layout is accepted.
A Spending Plan or a record of actual spending?
Simplifi’s product page describes a Spending Plan that starts with income and accounts for bills, subscriptions and planned spending. It also offers savings goals and projected cash flow. This is useful when your question is how future commitments affect the money available to spend.
mooola starts from recorded transactions. You can categorise spending, review recurring activity and create custom budgets with monthly, three-month or six-month resets, or track all-time spending. It does not provide Simplifi’s forward-looking balance projections. Our cash-flow guide explains why transaction history and a forecast answer different questions.
PDF statements and CSV imports are not interchangeable
Simplifi’s import guide specifies CSV transaction uploads through the web app, not the mobile app. The file must match the supported structure; attaching a PDF to a transaction does not import its contents as transactions.
mooola accepts selected original digital statement layouts on the device. Start with the bank-specific import instructions. For new supported purchases on Android, Google Wallet capture reduces manual entry after setup. Capture does not retrieve old transactions or replace a complete statement.
When changing apps, keep the original files and verify account totals, date ranges and duplicate transactions. Do not assume a Simplifi CSV export can be imported into mooola, or that a mooola spreadsheet export matches Simplifi’s required columns.
Privacy, access and cost
Simplifi’s FAQ describes records retained on its servers after a subscription ends, with access depending on renewal. In mooola, offline use needs no account, and supported statements are parsed locally. Optional financial uploads and shared payments have separate data flows, explained in mooola accounts and your data.
Simplifi requires an annual subscription. Check its current offer and renewal price; a promotional monthly equivalent is not a monthly billing option. Its direct-purchase money-back guarantee is different from a free trial.
Android is available on Google Play. iPhone and iPad are available on the App Store. Check mooola’s store listings for current pricing. If you need South African bank feeds, compare mooola and Vault22 before choosing a product around an unsupported connection.
